Put Tarp Over Roof

Grab one corner of the tarp and have a helper grab the other end.

Then fold the excess tarp under a few rotations for a tight clean fit. Lay the tarp out flat over the roof. Screw the 2 by 4 directly into the roof to secure it. If required cut plywood as needed cover up any existing penetrations with plywood secure the perimeter with screws every 6 to 12 into the roof sheathing below preferably into trusses unroll the full tarp make sure that the length extends 1 past the edge of the roof on the damaged side. Create an anchor board by rolling the tarp s peak end with a 2 x 4 inch board and nailing the tarp to your board with your 3 inch nails. Attach the 1x2s through the tarp and into the roof decking with eight penny nails about every 16 inches.

Unfold the tarp on the roof. Extend the top edge of the tarp over the ridge of the roof. Lay the tarp across the roof so that at least 4 feet 1 2 m lies on the sloped part of your roof on each side known as the peak. Try to pick a day that is not windy or else you may face frustration because as soon as you open the tarp up there it will start blowing all over the place.

Wrap the tarp three or four times around the wood then secure the wood to the soffit or the roof deck on the side of the peak opposite the side that is leaking. Partially unroll your tarp to cover the damaged area from the roof s eaves to peak. If you don t have a helper use the metal rings to hold down the tarp at the furthest four corners. A tarp can save you from a leaky roof situation in more ways than one and the process becomes much easier if you can do away with nails.
